RPI First Approach gives high-achieving juniors the opportunity to:

- Receive an early admission decision
- Secure the highest available merit scholarship
- Receive full demonstrated financial need
- Receive priority residence hall placement for your first year
- Receive priority course registration for your first semester
- Enter senior year with confidence
RPI First Approach is available to high-achieving high school juniors who have demonstrated strong academic performance and plan to complete the following courses before enrollment:
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Lab-based physics
- Precalculus or calculus
First Approach is open to applicants in any major except for Architecture or the Physician-Scientist (B.S./M.D.) Program (due additional application requirements). This program is only available to U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents.
RPI First Approach is designed to make it easy for motivated students to apply. Simply follow this streamlined process:
- Submit the Fast App.
- Upload transcripts covering all high school coursework to date.
- Enter your anticipated senior-year schedule.
The deadline for full consideration is May 1, 2026.
RPI First Approach is not a binding Early Decision program. If admitted, to receive your merit scholarship and financial aid package meeting full demonstrated need, you’ll need to:
- Submit the 2026-2027 FAFSA and CSS Profile between October 1 and November 15, 2026
- Confirm enrollment in the Class of 2031 by submitting your $500 enrollment deposit by January 15, 2027
