Enjoy Troy

Rich history, enchanting architecture, intriguing shops, creative restaurants, and a riverfront seat – Troy is in the midst of a vibrant revival and there’s plenty to love.

Troy’s nickname, “The Collar City,” originated because the majority of celluloid shirt collars worn by men in the 19th century were manufactured here. You can still find some of the most extensively preserved Victorian architecture in the country while walking through Troy—as well as music venues, boutiques, fine dining, and special events. A center of technical innovation, Troy also serves as a thriving metropolis within Tech Valley, New York State’s rival to Silicon Valley, with companies like GlobalFoundries and SEMATECH located in the area.

 The Capital Region

The Capital Region encompasses Albany, Troy, Saratoga, and Schenectady. Ample job opportunities and the increasing allure of Tech Valley compel many to commute to the area from the Southern Adirondacks,  the Northern Catskills, and even from areas in Vermont and Massachusetts.

The Capital City is lively and energetic, balancing its historic and legislative roots with a vibrant metropolitan atmosphere. You will always find something to do here whether you prefer outdoor recreation, cultural activities, or shopping.

The uniqueness of the Capital Region stems from the ability to offer residents and visitors world class cultural venues in a metropolitan setting side by side with outdoor recreational activities in beautiful and scenic surroundings.
